Bitcoin holds US$76K as ETF inflows slow — Ethereum logs $633M institutional buying streak

BTC trades at US$76,283 after pulling back from $79K earlier this week, consolidating after a 27% rally from the February low. Ethereum's 10 US spot ETFs logged $633M in net inflows over 10 consecutive days — a rare institutional signal. Solana adopted Falcon quantum security and is planning the Alpenglow consensus upgrade.

Australia's landmark crypto licensing law takes effect — exchanges have 18 months to comply

The Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Bill passed both houses on 1 April, requiring all crypto exchanges and custody platforms to hold Australian Financial Services Licenses. ASIC will oversee platforms from April 2027. The industry estimates A$24 billion in annual opportunity from tokenised markets.

RBA decision 5 days away — CPI data keeps May rate call on a knife's edge

March quarter CPI came in at 4.6% headline with trimmed mean holding at 3.3%. The Monetary Policy Board meets 4-5 May with markets split between a hold at 4.10% and a hike to 4.35%. CBA, NAB and Westpac lean toward a hike, but the unchanged underlying measure gives doves ammunition to pause.

Two-speed market widens: Perth +24%, Sydney and Melbourne slip backwards

National dwelling values rose 9.3% over 12 months per the NAB Housing Monitor. Perth surged 24.3% annually while Brisbane hit 20%. But Sydney fell 0.8% and Melbourne dropped 2.5% on a three-month annualised basis. CommBank expects 5% national growth in 2026 while ANZ has trimmed its forecast to just 2.8%.

Payday Super starts 1 July — plus new tax brackets for balances over $3M

From 1 July, employers must pay the 12% Super Guarantee within 7 days of every payday. Balances above $3M will face a 30% tax on earnings (up from 15%), and above $10M it's 40%. The LISTO rises from $500 to $810, and paid parental leave will now include super contributions paid directly to your fund.

ASX drops for sixth session in seven — ASIC hands out $1.1M in fines in one day

The ASX 200 shed 0.89% to 8,633, dragged by Origin Energy and the major banks. The All Ords lost 1.77% over five days as energy was the only bright spot (+1.47%). ASIC fined three public companies over $1.1M for transparency failures and is maintaining a $150M capital charge on ASX Ltd until resilience milestones are met.
